Thespian Club

Thespian Club Director Mr. Craig Edgerton

Congratulations to the fall 2009 theatre students on their 1st place finish in the Jefferson district festival and 3rd place at Regionals!

The Thespian Club is open to all FCHS students. Sometimes referred to as the Drama Club, this club is responsible for producing most of the school plays. Each year it produces several One-Act plays, including the Fall One-Act for the VHSL Theatre Competition, and the Spring Play, which is a full-length production. Some plays are produced as part of a class and some are produced as an after school activity. Students do not have to be an actor to be involved in any of the school plays. There are many different opportunities available to students besides acting, including working in lighting, sound, crew, costumes, and set design. Students earn points for every play that they are involved in and once they earn enough points they are invited to join the International Thespian Society. The Thespian Society is an international organization and is a life-long membership that has benefits that extend far beyond the high school years.

Like other clubs, we elect officers that serve annual terms and meet on a regular basis during club time. In the past we have taken field trips to see local plays including "Hairspray” at Christopher Newport Universtiy and "Les Miserables" at the Chrysler Hall in Norfolk. We are also responsible for taking part in Fluvanna County High School’s first annual arts festival.

Students interested in learning more should speak with Mr. Edgerton or any of the scores of drama students who wander the Fluco halls.
