Final Exams
Final exams are given in all courses. For classes with VA SOL tests - Students who pass the SOL test on the first attempt are exempt from taking the final exam for that class. If a student elects to take a paper-pencil SOL test or is in VSEP, that student must take the final exam since their scores will not be back before exam day.
Exam dates and schedule: Thursday, December 20, 2007: 1st and 4th period exams. Friday, December 21, 2007: 2nd and 3rd period.
SENIOR EXAM EXEMPTION PROCEDURE FOR 2007-2008
Exemptions for 12th grade students only, subject to the following criteria:- Seniors must have A- average or better, with averages computed one week prior to exams.
- No more than three unexcused absences for the semester.
- Objective questions administered on exam day, and any, or all, essay questions administered at the teacher's discretion during the last six weeks of the semester.
- No senior is eligible for exemption who has receive in-school suspension, out-of-school suspension, or after school detention. This loss of eligibility will be class specific. For instance, a student receiving detention for conduct in his/her English class will lose the exemption privilege only for English. He/She may still be exempt from other exams, provided the exemption criteria are met.
- No senior who violates the Honor Code will be eligible for the exemption privilege in any class.
NOTICE
Fluvanna County High School Exams Procedures- Examinations will be given on TBA and TBA for first semester. Second semester exams are TBA.
- All courses are required to give a final exam. Students who passed a SOL test on the first attempt will not be required to take a final exam in that SOL course. In this case, students may choose to take a final exam to help their grade.
- Teachers are expected to give, and students are expected to take, exams at the scheduled time.
- Excuses for examinations will only be granted on the basis of serious illness, or other genuine emergency, and no excuses will be given unless prior notice is given to appropriate grade level administrator. Such notice may be given by telephone call from a parent. Excuses must be confirmed by written evidence, such as a doctor's note. Such evidence shall be submitted on the day the student returns to school. If such evidence is not submitted, the missed exam will be considered unexcused.
- Students who miss exams must begin making them up the day they return. Exams will be made up at a rate of two per day until they are completed. All FCHS examinations must be made up by January 4, 2007 for first semester and TBA for second semester unless an extension is granted by the administration.
- In the event of school closing, exams will resume on the next day of school, in the same order as they were originally scheduled. In the event of a half-day closing, an announcement will be made before students are released. In the event of a delayed opening, the study period will be shortened or omitted.
- If a student is exempt from an exam or has work-study, the student is not obligated to be at FCHS during such time. Sign-in and sign-out times for exam days are between exams. Alternative activities will not be offered to exempted students. Students must have a note for early dismissal, just like any other day.
- Students are expected to remain in exam areas until the bell sounds to release all students from each period. Students are not to be in the halls during exam time.
- PVCC courses are not allowed to give exemptions.
- Students having questions about the above procedures should direct them to an administrator before the beginning of examinations. The excuse that these procedures were misunderstood will not be deemed acceptable.
Senior Exam Make-Up Procedures
Seniors will be allowed to take one make-up exam in the second semester, provided they are failing only one required class, their average is 65 or above in that class, and if graduation is pending. The teacher whose class they are failing will give make-up exams no later than the morning of the last day of school.Return to top.
