ITEMS NOT PERMITTED AT SCHOOL
Headphones are permitted for use before and after school. During school hours, headphones are to be turned off and not visible. Possessing a cell phone on school property is a privilege, not a right. All students' cell phones must be registered through the main office, and failure to do so may result in disciplinary action. During school hours, cell phones must be turned off and not visible.The following are items that are inappropriate at school and are not to be brought into any building or be on school grounds. The school is NOT held responsible for any items that are confiscated from a student, or for any items lost or stolen at school. These items will be confiscated every time a parent or guardian must come to school and meet with the administrator before the item will be returned. Further offenses will result in After-school Detention and possible suspension.
- Radios, including any music device with headphones, except as noted above.
- Skateboards (Skateboarding is not permitted on high school grounds at any time.)
- Electronic paging devices.
- Playing cards
- Lighters and matches
Tobacco products
For the first offense, possession or use will result in out-of-school suspension, referral to the tobacco prevention program, and a referral to the court service unit, with increasing consequences for further offenses.
Explosives, including fireworks.
Possession of these will result in 10 days OSS and a referral to the Superintendent of Schools.
Arson is a felony offense under the law. Students will be immediately suspended. Students will be immediately referred to legal agencies for prosecution. Activating a fire alarm pull station is a serious offense and will be punishable by suspension. This also applies to tampering with fire suppression equipment.
WEAPONS
Any type of pistol, airgun, shotgun, rifle, bow/arrow, laser pointer, chemical sprays, plastic or toy guns, knives of any kind, slingshots, brass knuckles, blackjacks, spikes and any look alike of these items. Possession of these will result in confiscation, OSS, a referral to the Superintendent of Schools and the student may be referred to the Sheriff's office.DRUGS
State law prohibits alcohol or illegal drugs on school property. Students found to possess alcohol, drugs, drug paraphernalia or look-alike substances on their person, in their locker, in their cars, or anywhere on school property will be reported to law enforcement for legal action. Students attempting to distribute alcohol, drugs, drug paraphernalia, or look-alike substances will be dealt with in a similar manner. Further, school board policy requires suspension from school and possible expulsion. Possession of these will result in confiscation, 10 days OSS, a referral to the Superintendent of Schools and to the Sheriff's office. The same punishment applies for possession of alcohol or illegal drugs at school events and on school trips.FCHS grounds are contained within a drug free school zone according to Sec. 18.2-255.2 of the Code of Virginia.
