Fluvanna County Alternative Education

Requests need to be made in writing to the building principal.  If you are new to the county or transitioning from a home-school program, you will need to enroll with the school system first, and then make the request with the appropriate principal.

How do I make a request for my son or daughter to be enrolled in Alternative Education?

No.  Students in Alternative Education do not typically have homework.  If a student falls behind or is having difficulty with a particular topic, they may receive some homework assignments.  Under these circumstances the teacher will typically attempt to contact you to let you know.  If you ever have concerns, feel free to call and ask to speak to your son’s or daughter’s teachers.  You may call 589-8208 and ask for the teacher or Mr. Walker, or you may email them.  Please be aware that between 8:10 and 3:00 the teachers will be working with students and may not be available to talk with you, but they will be happy to return your call.

My son or daughter doesn’t bring home any homework.  Should I be concerned?

Students may be dropped off or picked up from the Intervention Center (in the back of the School Board Office) during the normal pick-up and drop-off times (8:10 to 8:20 or 3:00 to 3:10).  If you are bringing in a student late or picking them up early, please report to the front office.

What if I want to drop off or pick up my son or daughter?

Students may either bring a lunch to school or order a lunch from the cafeteria.  Refrigerators and microwaves are available for students who bring lunch.  Students wishing to order a lunch may order the basic lunch from the high school cafeteria’s menu. Extra items such as fries and snack bars are not available. Lunches will be delivered from the high school for students at approximately 11:20.  Students arriving at the Intervention Center after 10:30 will not be able to order a lunch from the cafeteria.

How does my son or daughter get lunch?

Students need to bring pencils/pens and a notebook.  Everything else necessary for class will be provided.

What will my son or daughter need to bring with them to school?

Yes.  Students in both the Distance Learning program and the Intervention Center take their SOL tests in the Intervention Center.  Tests are administered online unless a request is made in writing for the test to be administered in the “paper-pencil” format.  All students will receive written notification of the date and time their tests are scheduled.  Students enrolled in the Distance Learning program will need to arrange for their own transportation to and from the Intervention Center.

Will my son or daughter be able to take SOL tests?
