The Alternative Education programs in Fluvanna County were originally created to provide an opportunity for students on long-term suspension from school to continue their education. Over time, however, some students found that the smaller class sizes, greater structure, and additional support lead to greater success in school. As a result, now close to half of alternative education students are enrolled by request. To meet the various needs of students, there are two programs students may be placed in: |

Students enrolled in the Intervention Center are in classrooms with teachers and are provided instruction through a combination of computer software and direct teaching. |
|
Students enrolled in the Distance Learning program study at home using computer software and are provided an hour of tutoring each week. |
