This is a reminder that tomorrow mandatory hearing and vision screenings will take place throughout the school day for all third graders as well as any fourth graders new to FCPS. If you wish to opt your student out, please contact your child's teacher.

In accordance with Virginia school safety requirements, Carysbrook will conduct a lockdown drill tomorrow, September 9, 2026.
Lockdown drills are an important part of our ongoing efforts to prepare students and staff to respond safely and appropriately in the event of an emergency. During the drill, students and staff will practice established safety procedures in a controlled and supervised manner.
Please know that this is only a scheduled drill, and there is no threat or emergency at Carysbrook.
Following the drill, we will send families a brief update confirming that it has been completed.
Thank you for your continued partnership as we work together to maintain a safe and prepared school community.

SPECIAL EVENING HOURS: 3:00-7:00 p.m. Monday 9/21 & Tuesday 9/22
Join us for a night of music and movement!
Families will engage in a variety of physical activities, including cardio drumming, yoga, and therapy putty exercises. Each family receives an exercise ball, yoga mat, colorful exercise cards, and therapy putty to take with them.

FCPS Screening Programs:
Hearing and Vision
Screening for vision and hearing is state-mandated and is conducted routinely for all students in kindergarten and grades 3, 7, and 10. Screening is also conducted for all students new to public school and for any student upon request, with parental permission. Parents should contact the school nurse to make such a request.
The school screening program is not a comprehensive exam–it is just a screen to detect possible hearing or vision deficits in children that may be affecting their academic success. If the screening test is positive, showing that the child may have a deficit, it is important that a complete exam be scheduled with a hearing or vision specialist to diagnose the problem and determine if treatment is needed.
If a child screens positive (indicating a possible problem) the parent will receive written documentation of the results and recommendations for what steps to take next to have the child professionally evaluated. This year’s screenings, at Carysbrook, will be on September 17, 2026.

During the Fluvanna County School Board meeting held on August 12, 2026, the Board voted to reschedule its upcoming September meeting. Originally planned for September 9, 2026, the meeting will now take place on September 23, 2026.
This adjustment ensures the Board can accommodate scheduling needs while continuing its commitment to transparency and effective governance.
