Feeding the Future with Healthy School Meals
FCPS School Nutrition Program operates the federally assisted SBP, NSLP, CACFP and SFSP. We provide delicious & nutritionally balanced breakfast, lunch & afterschool snack, free of charge to FCPS students each school day.
Do students have to take all food items being offered?
PreK students must take all 5 meal components for lunch. Students K-12 need to take 3 meal items for breakfast or lunch. Students K-12 must be allowed to decline two items at lunch, except that the students must select at least ½ cup of either the fruit or vegetable component.
Code of Virginia § 22.1-207.4:3. (Effective July 1, 2027) Nutritional standards for school meals and other foods; certain color additives prohibited.
Effective March 1, 2026, FCPS School Nutrition Program will remove Lucky Charms cereal from the breakfat menu and Strawberry Scooter and Crazy Cone ice creams from the Smart Snacks offerings. These are the only items offered to students that contain artificial dyes. Manufacturers are currently working on reformulations of these items to meet the current school nutrition standards.
All FCPS snacks meet USDA guidelines & are Smart Snack compliant.
