PALMYRA, VA  – Move over, March Madness—it's time for some April Arithmetic! On Thursday, April 2, 2026, the FMS Gymnasium transformed into a battleground of brains as Fluvanna students in Grades 3 through 6 flexed their mental muscles and crunched the numbers in the Fluvanna County 24 Math Tournament.

Students competed in the 24 Math Game, which uses a deck of cards displaying four whole numbers between 1 and 9. When presented with a card, players race to be the first to combine the numbers to make 24 using only addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. The game strengthens pattern recognition, mental math, and problem‑solving skills, and it consistently sparks excitement and enthusiasm for mathematics among students.

After four rounds of intense competition, the top four students from each grade level earned a spot in the Regional Competition at Prospect Heights Middle School in Orange County on Tuesday, April 14, at 5:30 p.m.
