Team Jet Engines: Ionica Barcelona, Emilia Mullins, Kinsley Christiansen, Lily Dugan, and Dahlia Boyd

FLUVANNA COUNTY, VA — The Fluvanna Middle School (FMS) “Jet Engines” team captured second place in the Virginia State KidWind Challenge Finals on Saturday, April 11, marking a major achievement for the school’s growing renewable‑energy program. The team is composed of veteran competitors, each with up to three years of experience in hands‑on renewable‑energy engineering.

This year’s success follows a strong performance at the regional KidWind event held at Piedmont Virginia Community College on March 25, where the Jet Engines placed 3rd among 43 teams. Their consistent results have earned them a coveted invitation to the KidWind World Challenge, where they will compete against top national and international teams.

The KidWind World Challenge brings together leading student innovators to test their engineering skills, turbine performance, and understanding of renewable‑energy concepts. Representing Fluvanna at this level is both an honor and a significant logistical undertaking.

The two‑day championship in Madison, Wisconsin, requires round-trip travel and three nights of lodging. Fluvanna Middle School is inviting community members, civic groups, and local businesses to help sponsor the team’s travel and participation expenses. Support will ensure that every qualifying student has the opportunity to attend and compete.
